Doris Campbell has enjoyed a hobby of oil painting for many years. After retiring in 1986, Doris studied art at SUNY Farmingdale, Nassau Community College and is currently studying under Shirley Malone of Amityville. In recent years she has been branching out in to watercolor
Doris has been a member of the Suburban Art league, Woodbury; and Independent Art Society, Hicksville. She is presently a member of the Babylon Citizens Council of the Arts (BACCA) in North Babylon; South Shore Artists Association, West Islip; Amityville Artist' Circle, Amityville and the Long Island Black Artist Association (LIBAA), Hempstead.
Her work has been shown in art shows at Bethpage Winter Arts Festivals; BACCA; The Lauder Museum's Historical Fair; Independent Art Society; South Shore Artist Association; Visual Art Alliance of Long Island (VAALI); Nassau University Medical Center, The African American Museum and Midge Karr Art Center.
Doris has had one woman shows at the Copiague Public Library, Amityville Public Library, Roslyn Savings Bank in Babylon, Uniondale Public Library, Syosset Woodbury Club House, New Island Hospital, Bank of New York in Syosset, CitiBank in Hicksville, Hicksville Public Library, Massapequa Public Library, Plainedge Public Library, Sandel Senior Center in Rockville Centre and the Town of Oyster Bay Attorney's Office.
Doris has participated in the BACCA Rotating Art and the Town of Oyster Bay's Rotating Art Programs. Doris has won several ribbons over the years. In the year 2000 she won the "IAS JEAN KUDDLESS MEMORIAL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE" in the Members only art show of the Independent Art Society.
Doris enjoys painting still life, flowers, animals, portraits, seascapes, and abstracts. Her paintings are a part of several collections throughout Long Island and Queens.
